It's quiet here, and I'm trying hard not to fall asleep at 7:15 p.m. Yes, I'm an early-bird but that's ridiculous, even for me. I slept well last night, so I'm not certain why my body feels like it's 11:15.
Anyhow, it's been a good weekend, all told. Mom is back in town after being away for three months, so it was good to see her again. She's still a bit wiped from travel and having a bit of a rough time adjusting to the Midwest again, so the visits were a bit low-key, but still good. Unfortunately, I left the knitting bag with her Christmas present out and she got a peek at her present. Ah, well. This way, at least I know she likes what she's getting.
Speaking of knitting, I went to a class yesterday at my local yarn store. They carry Habu yarns and kits, and they had one of the designers in to give classes on how to read and work from Japanese-style knitting patterns. No, not reading Japanese, but making sense of the way the knitting patterns are presented in terms of schematics and tables. Fascinating stuff, and very logical once you know what the rules are. And yes, I did order a kit. They had a number of the garments there for people to try on, and there was a knee-length coat that hit me just perfectly at the waist and actually made my hips look good. Speaking of knitting, before the month is out, I will upload pictures of all of the stuff I've been working on.
On the writing front, I am behind on my
springkink prompts (but not horribly worried about it), not as far along as I would like to be on the co-write project (somewhat annoyed with myself there), and very glad I'm not doing Yuletide (although I will be keeping an eye on the pinch-hit list).
We've also been having glorious weather--sunny and in the upper seventies. There's something about Indian Summer that makes me pleasantly homesick even though I'm at home. I'm not sure what it is. I've had the windows open all day, and I've heard church bells on and off all day, and from time to time, the train horn off in the distance.
